Dental crowns are really common, many people you know will have one without you ever knowing.
Dental crowns are used in many circumstances - when a tooth is really damaged and needs support, to giving your tooth a different shape or colour to achieve that "Hollywood smile"
What is a Dental Crown?
A crown is a artificial restoration that fits over the top on a prepared tooth to give it strength and also to make it look like a real tooth. Some people refer to crowns as "caps" and they fit snugly over the top of a tooth just like a cap fits snugly on your head
When do you need a Dental Crown?
A crown is needed when a tooth is broken or has been damaged causing the tooth to become weaker. This can be due to decay in the tooth or can be required after a root canal. You can also use crowns to change the shape of teeth so you can get that "Hollywood" smile and have perfect looking teeth regardless of your starting smile.
Reasons for using a dental crown include: > Reinforcing a tooth that has had a Root Canal > Reinforcing a tooth that is cracked or weakened >You have a tooth that is affected by a large cavity > Reshape a tooth to improve your smile > Improve the colour of a tooth and improve your smile
