Wisdom teeth, or third molars, are the final teeth to develop. Most of us have four wisdom teeth, one in each corner of the mouth. Wisdom teeth often become impacted (stuck) behind the adult second molars, or simply fail to erupt. This can cause crowding and can also lead to tooth decay, infection, or gum disease.
Clubb Dental will assess whether your wisdom teeth require extraction, using visual and Digital OPG X-Ray examination.
In many cases they may not need to be extracted, but can be observed at regular 6 monthly check ups. If wisdom teeth are going to need to be extracted they will often be removed with the use of local anesthetic, and Happy Gas (Nitrous Oxide Sedation).
For more complex wisdom teeth surgery, a referral to one of our excellent oral and Maxillo-Facial Surgeon colleagues will be arranged.
