You may experience dental decay, or a have a tooth break. Traditionally you may have had a restoration placed using dental amalgam. This is no longer necessary because nowadays we are able to repair your tooth with cosmetic and strong tooth coloured restorations. We have several options available at Clubb Dental. These include, ceramic, composite resin, and Glass Ionomer Cements (GIC).
These cosmetic materials have advantages over older materials such as silver amalgam fillings (and gold).
They look natural.
They adhere to your tooth and require less aggressive preparation (older materials required us to drill deeper to 'grip' the filling into the tooth).
They are considered healthier (World Health Organisation recommends avoidance of amalgam in children and pregnant women).
Silver Amalgam fillings contain Mercury and may expand and contract with temperature changes in your mouth. Your tooth is crystalline, and cracks can form.
AMALGAM REPLACEMENT
There has been a controversy regarding the use of mercury in people’s mouths, but most health organisations agree that the amount and form of mercury contained in Amalgam is not detrimental to your health.
Some people prefer to have their old amalgam fillings replaced for their own personal reasons and we respect their wishes, and are happy to discuss and assist them.
Clubb Dental does not use any dental amalgam (silver/ mercury filling material)
Dental procedures have risks. Prior to having a procedure, you should seek a professional opinion from a properly qualified health practitioner. Individual results can vary.
