Can you check if you have brushed your teeth properly?
Almost all of our patients brush their teeth every day but few manage to remove all the plaque. They don't need to try harder, or brush for longer. They need to find out where the plaque is hiding in their mouth (which bits are they missing).
This is especially true for children.
The trouble with plaque is that it is tooth coloured and so it is very difficult to see. People can clean their teeth and still miss many hard to reach areas around the gum and between the teeth

Disclosure Tablets?
Traditional disclosure tablets and liquids can be used to find plaque, they rely on a red dye turning your plaque red. These tablets and liquids are quite messy to use and those of us with children who have tried using these have had red dye from one end of the bathroom to the other and they have never been used routinely for this reason.

I have found a toothpaste and torch system that the kids love and is super easy so you can use it every day.
PLAQUE GLO FLUORESCING TOOTHPASTE and TORCH
Plaque Glo is a toothpaste that contains a fluorescing stain that stick to any plaque on your teeth.
You simply use the toothpaste as usual and then floss as usual.
When you have finished, turn off the light and use the blue light torch to see if there are any areas that are glowing brightly. These brightly glowing areas are plaque.
It can show you where you need to focus more attention when you are brushing or flossing.
You then brush or floss these areas until they are clear of plaque.

I have found the Plaque Glo excellent for showing my children how to brush properly and the areas that they need to concentrate on.
The stain is seen only under blue light so there is no extra mess in the bathroom (at least to the naked eye).
