Easter is one of the sweetest times of the year, we are surrounded by chocolate eggs in every size and flavour.
Here are a few tips to make sure that enjoying some of those treats will not be bad for our teeth.
TIPS TO LOOK AFTER YOUR TEETH THIS EASTER
1. DON'T GRAZE Do not graze on Easter eggs all day long. You are better off eating Easter eggs in a single sitting and then stepping away from them for the rest of the day or at least several hours. Having your teeth coated with the sugar in chocolate all day allows the bacteria to attack your teeth all day. After 20 minutes of no additional intake of sugar your saliva will have been able to wash your teeth and started protecting them again.
2. CHOICE OF CHOCOLATE The choice of chocolate is also important as each type of chocolate contains a different amount of sugar White chocolate has 59g of sugar / 100g Milk chocolate has 52g of sugar / 100g 70% Dark chocolate has 21g of sugar / 100g So your choice of chocolate for less sugar is Dark Chocolate and the higher the percentage the better. 3. MAINTAIN YOUR DENTAL ROUTINE Just because you are on holidays for a few days keep up your usual dental routine, brushing morning and night and flossing once a day.
4. SCHEDULE A DENTAL CHECKUP If it has been more than 6 months since your last checkup and clean it is time to arrange your next dental appointment
