The other day a patient named John came in with a broken tooth.
He had broken his tooth on a piece of bread, not one of those fancy hard italian bread rolls that you would expect to break a tooth on - just a regular piece of bread!
What made it worse is that it was not the first time that he had broken this tooth, so a simple filling would not solve the problem.
The Problem
The tooth had already had a filling in it from the last time it was broken and this time more of the tooth had come away when John bit into the piece of bread.
The tooth was now sensitive and also the edge of the break was sharp and so it was cutting his tongue.
This meant that John couldn't go to work as he was having trouble speaking and eating
The Solution
John's tooth was needing a crown, this would give the remaining tooth the strength it needed to prevent more damage in the future.
We decided on a single visit crown - everything was prepared on the tooth and then we took 3D scans of the tooth an milled a ceramic crown.
This meant that John only needed to be numbed once and everything was done in 1 visit to the dentist.
John ended up with a good looking tooth that no-one will realise is not his natural tooth and the crown will protect the tooth rom further damage in the future.
Lessons Learnt
🍏 Arrange regular 6 monthly check-ups so we can find any problem while it is still small and easy to fix
🍏 If you have a dental problem don't leave it, it will not go away. 🍏 The solution is often easier than you expect, like a crown in a single visit.
